Summary of Experience
Professor Aiello is an expert in epidemiology, with a focus on the prevention of infectious diseases in community settings; life course studies on infection, immunity, and chronic disease; and the impact of social, environmental, and genomic risk factors on aging and immunity. In addition to her positions at UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, she is a Carolina Population Center Fellow, as well as an adjunct professor of social medicine at UNC’s School of Medicine. Professor Aiello has served as an expert witness and testified at deposition. Her research has been published widely in academic journals, and her numerous consulting and service commitments have included the World Health Organization, the Interdisciplinary Association of Population Health Science, and the National Institutes of Health. Prior to joining UNC, Professor Aiello held faculty positions at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, where she was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Scholar, and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Her honors include fellowships from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as awards from Columbia University and the Society for Epidemiological Research for outstanding achievement in the field of epidemiology.
